Risk Factors
Some of the factors that increase the chances of an individual for peroneal subluxation or dislocation are as follows:
- Athletes participating in sports that involve constant running and jumping.
- Individuals with high foot arches.
- Individuals with tight calf muscles, which are the muscles located at the back of the lower leg (called the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles)
- Individuals who wear ill-fitting footwear while engaging in sports or recreational activity.
- Individuals born with a shallow groove in the bone or with weak peroneal retinaculum.
